Anzen

Anzen is developing solid-state heat pump technology designed to overcome the barriers that prevent many UK homes – especially hard-to-decarbonise ones like flats – from switching to low carbon heating. Their compact, wall-integrated Climate Wall system provides heating, cooling, ventilation, and air purification in one unit, without the need for an outdoor unit or complex installation.

With a high-efficiency thermoelectric design, the system can modulate from 0.2kW to 2kW, making it adaptable to both draughty and well-insulated homes. Installation takes just a few hours and can be done by a local electrician, making it a scalable retrofit option that doesn’t compromise on comfort or indoor air quality.

Anzen is on a mission to decarbonise one million UK homes by 2035, offering a people-focused, practical route to net zero that puts affordability and ease of use at its core.

It was fantastic to see Anzen’s innovative Climate Wall solution presented at Futurebuild – a compact, solid-state heat pump that could play a vital role in retrofitting the UK’s hardest-to-decarbonise homes. Their approach tackles some of the most pressing barriers in the heat pump market – cost, complexity, and space – with a practical, scalable alternative. We’re excited to see how Anzen’s pilot projects progress and how their technology evolves to support a just, affordable energy transition across the housing sector.

“At Anzen, we’re developing solid-state heat pumps designed for the 12.5 million UK homes that are hard to retrofit. With no outdoor unit, refrigerants, or complex installation, our system is compact, quiet, and installs in 2 hours, making clean heating accessible to flats and older homes alike.

“The Big Retrofit Challenge platform has been instrumental in connecting us with partners who share our urgency to decarbonise homes at scale and who understand the value of simple, scalable solutions.”
