”On the heels of the Government's £15B Warm Homes Plan announcement, tools like Kestrix that make triaging homes for retrofit programmes and verifying retrofit outcomes quickly, reliably, and non-invasively to residents more easily have never been so needed. Kestrix is excited to use the BRC's platform to reach more industry stakeholders and ultimately drive more confident retrofit planning and execution.
Kestrix
Like the ‘Google Maps’ of heat loss, Kestrix uses thermal drones and AI to map and quantify how heat escapes from buildings and generate energy retrofit plans non-invasively, quickly, and cost-effectively. Since its founding in 2022, Kestrix has mapped 9,000 homes for major UK housing providers and utilities such as Peabody, Islington Council, and E.ON, helping triage properties for retrofit and verify retrofit outcomes – for more confident schemes.
The innovation: Rapid Thermal Performance Assessment algorithms (RaThPAs)
Kestrix’s Rapid Thermal Performance Assessment algorithms (RaThPAs) apply AI to the analysis of thermal and visual imagery of buildings to rapidly and non-invasively assess heat loss across UK. This enables faster, more efficient delivery of fabric retrofit measures as well as low-carbon heating at scale; supplementing costly in-home surveys with remote analysis to help housing providers, contractors, and utilities prioritise the right homes for measures and verify outcomes.
