The National Home Decarbonisation Group (NHDG) has joined almost 40 organisations in writing to the Prime Minister and Chancellor, calling for certainty on the future of the 0% VAT rate for energy-saving materials. The letter highlights the role the policy has played in supporting investment in home energy efficiency and urges the Government to extend the relief beyond March 2027.

Derek Horrocks, Chairperson of the National Home Decarbonisation Group (NHDG), said:

“The new Prime Minister’s message that you cannot have a good life without a good home is one the retrofit sector has been converting into reality for years, and it is genuinely encouraging to see it placed at the heart of the new Prime Minister’s agenda.

“As a former health secretary, he understands better than most that the condition of our homes shapes the nation’s health, and that warm, safe and efficient housing eases pressure on the NHS while improving everyday life. That framing matters, because it treats housing not as a standalone policy area but as the foundation for so much else.”
